Tree Stump Removal in Citrus County & Central Florida

When someone asks us to remove a tree stump, what they want is the stump gone and the yard usable again. We do that by grinding, not by digging. A commercial, remote-controlled grinder takes the stump down past ground level and into the root ball, about six inches below grade, so grass can grow properly and no piece of root comes back up to meet your lawnmower.

Digging a stump out is the invasive version: it pulls the entire root system up and can damage what is around it. Grinding leaves the ground where it is. The machine works from above, the hole is only as wide as the stump was, and the rest of the lawn is left alone.

What you are left with is that hole and a clean pile of grindings beside it. Fill the hole with topsoil and lay sod, or spread the grindings and leave them as mulch. Either way the site is ready the same day.

Big Stumps, Roots and Palms

There is no stump too big or too small. If the stump is a bit tall that is fine too — I bring a chainsaw for that reason, and I can cut trees or stumps that are 12 feet or shorter before the grinder starts.

Roots and palms grind as well as trunks do. If you have palmettos or shrubbery, cut all the green off before I get there. Green leaves, sticks and vines do not grind; they wrap around the equipment and I have to stop and clean it every five or ten minutes.

I can grind the roots of a tree that is still standing, but I cannot guarantee the safety of the tree that root is supporting. It could fall or die. I will tell you what I see before I start and the call is yours.

What Tree Stump Removal Costs

Just $33 per 16-inch stump, minimum may apply to the stop. That price is for an average stump measured across where it meets the ground.

A bigger stump costs more because there is more wood in it. Without going into the math of a circle, a stump that is double the diameter is nearly four times the area — four times the wood and four times the work.

I quote on site. The equipment comes with me, I look at the stump and the ground around it, and you get a firm price before anything starts, with no obligation until you approve it.

If the only way into the backyard is a 36-inch gate, there is an extra $88 for the amount of labor that adds. An opening of 57 inches or wider does not incur any extra.

Before and After

We do not take any debris away, and that is on purpose. To keep our costs as low as they are, and therefore cheaper for you, all I charge for is the use of the machine. That is how the price stays where it is.

The grinder sends most of the material straight back down, so the pile ends up next to the hole rather than spread across the lawn. It is clean, it is easy to shovel, and it is yours to use.

I build a route the night before out of all the stops and hit them one by one, so I cannot promise a time on the clock. What I can promise is a phone call: when I finish with the customer directly ahead of you, I call your number with the exact time I will be at your address.

In most cases we are out within a day or two, not including Sunday. If you are scheduled today, I will be there — rain or shine. Barring an equipment failure I am coming, and if I do have a major delay I will call that day to reschedule.
